Lighting sequence for The Shard’s 2025 Christmas Lights

I was selected as one of 12 artists to create a sequence for The Shard’s 2025 Christmas Lights, a series featuring work from artists across disciplines including painters, poets, illustrators and digital artists.

My design draws on kaleidoscopic patterns inspired by London’s cultural diversity and the mosaic forms found across the city’s architecture and interiors. Bold geometric structures combine with finer ornamental motifs to create a sequence that reads clearly at scale.

Working with the lighting team, I translated the animation into the Shard’s spire system, developing mock-ups to test how the visuals would read at height and distance. The colour palette was refined to maximise contrast and visibility, ensuring the sequence remained striking and legible across the skyline.

The sequence was programmed into the hourly light cycle displayed across the Shard’s spire during the Christmas period.
